Alcoholism Sign Or An Alcohol Use Sign?

Alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence can take its toll on a dependent not only physically but also emotionally and psychologically. You will not be able to tell if a person is an alcohol addict just by looking at him. An alcoholism sign is not always manifested physically. Most times, only the addict himself can say that he exhibits an alcoholism sign because it can be easily hidden. It is crucial to be able to identify symptoms of alcohol addiction at an early stage because the earlier it is remedied, the better the chances of treatment success. Likewise, the earlier an alcohol addiction is addressed, the less adverse physical effects take place.

Alcohol use can result to various physical and mental effects. Sometimes, these psychological effects affect how they act. However, alcohol does not have the same effect on all people. Some people naturally have higher tolerance level for alcohol while others do not. People with high alcohol tolerance are usually those who are in danger of becoming addicted. Though people have different responses to alcohol, all alcohol addicts exhibit common symptoms or behaviors.

Increased tolerance for alcohol is an early alcoholism sign. This means that the person would have to drink more alcohol in order for him to be able to feel its effect. This symptom is very difficult to detect because more often than not, only the problem drinker would be able to determine this. Incidents of solo drinking are also an indication of alcohol addiction. While it is perfectly normal to drink with friends, drinking alone implies another thing. When a person drinks away from a social activity, this reflects a need for alcohol. The same could also be concluded when a person takes to drinking even early in the morning to relieve himself of a hangover. People who had been unsuccessfully trying to abstain from drinking several times are also more likely to be alcoholism victims. Denial that one has alcohol use problem is also another alcoholism sign. Some alcoholics also lie about the amount of alcohol that they have already used. Because they know that they have drank far too many than what is recommended, they usually underestimate their alcohol intake. They also do such in order to avoid being judged by other people based on their alcohol consumption.

An alcoholism sign that comes out late in the alcoholism stage is the presence of legal or social problems due to alcohol use. Some alcoholics encounter legal problems as a result of driving under the influence, fighting or figuring in a public brawl and being remiss of his duties as a citizen. Relationships with some family members or friends may also be affected when a person becomes addicted to alcohol. This is because those people who cared would call the attention of the problem drinker to his drinking habits. The latter, in turn, would feel and act defensive about it resulting to the strained relations.

If any two of the alcoholism sign or symptoms mentioned above are manifested in a person then, that person is more likely suffering from alcoholism. The best thing that the problem drinker can do is initiate treatment as early as possible.
