Deciphering Alcoholism Symptom

The alcohol tolerance level of a person increases the risk for that person to be addicted to alcohol. The alcohol tolerance level varies from person to person. For some people, alcohol addiction does not take place simply because they become intoxicated before they can even become addicted to alcohol. People with high alcohol tolerance level are more likely to become alcohol dependents. This is because for alcohol addiction to be taking place, an individual should have been able to consume large amounts of alcohol. Since women, in general, have lower alcohol tolerance; women are three times less likely to become alcoholics. Despite the different reactions that people have to alcohol, it is important to be aware of the signs that a person may have an alcohol addiction problem. Early recognition of an alcoholism symptom can become a factor in the recovery of a problem drinker.

If a person resorts to drinking every time he wants to temporarily forget his problems and or make himself calm, then he must have a problem. This alcoholism symptom stems from the fact that for an alcoholic, alcohol becomes a refuge and a source of comfort. When alcohol is used to relieve stress, addiction becomes more likely. Another alcoholism symptom is the feeling of regret or guilt that a person feels every time he drinks. The problem drinker may be unconsciously aware that he has already consumed more than what is normal thus, his guilt. Several unsuccessful tries to limit or abstain from drinking are also an indication of an addiction problem. This reflects the inability of the problem drinker to control or stop his drinking habit.

The act of lying about how much alcohol one already consumed is also an alcoholism symptom. This shows that the person is aware that he has a problem and that he is afraid that people will make a judgment of him based on his alcohol consumption. An increase in alcohol tolerance level also determines an addiction problem. This happens when a person needs to consume greater amounts of alcohol so as to feel its effects. Though this alcoholism symptom may be difficult to detect, it is a clear indication of alcohol dependency. Another warning sign is the feeling of irritability whenever one cannot drink alcohol. In some cases, alcoholics may cause physical harm or encounter social, family or financial concerns just to be able to assuage their constant thirst for alcohol. In fact, the presence of legal problems or accidents that are alcohol related is another alcoholism symptom.

When the act of drinking alone becomes more rampant, alcoholism may be diagnosed. While it is perfectly normal to drink in the company of friends, increasing frequency of solo drinking implies alcohol dependency. It is also particularly useful to note if your alcohol consumption is significantly, more than that of your friends. Drinking in the morning to deal with a hangover is another alcoholism symptom that has serious implications. If any of these warning signs is true to anybody that you know then, there is a strong chance that such a person is a alcohol dependent.
